of Cork Ringaskiddy
Length: 485m;
Depth: 13.4m

Ringaskiddy,
in the lower harbour, has been developed as a significant site for industrial
development. IDA Ireland owns a land-bank, the largest in the State, of
1,000 acres with the infrastructural facilities of natural gas, water,
electricity, effluent disposal to match the most exacting needs of industry.
Ownership by IDA, together with the services provided, guarantees a quicker
start-up for new industries locating there. Overseas companies already
located there include the Pfizer Chemical Corporation, Archer Daniel Midland,
Hickson Pharmaceutical, SmithKline Beecham and Sandoz.
The
port facilities, which include berthage for fully laden Panamax size (60,000
GT) vessels, have been supported by Irish Government and E.U. funding.
An additional advantage of Ringaskiddy is that it is Ireland's only freeport.
The
Port of Cork can lay claim to being Ireland's major deep water port in
being able to accommodate and service the largest vessels to visit these
shores. The deep water facility is located near the harbour's mouth at
Ringaskiddy, where ships of up to 60,000 tons dwt can be accommodated.
With
the new infrastructure of roads now in place, Ringaskiddy is easily accessed
from all areas.
